Testosterone

Testosterone is a hormone, produced naturally by the testes, that acts during puberty to promote sexual development and maturation in the male, build muscle mass, maintain bone density and increase red blood cell production.

Testosterone may be used as a prescription drug for the treatment of certain growth disorders, for a rare form of anemia, and for certain cancers that respond to hormonal therapy. Testosterone is also sold illegally, in oral and injectable forms, as an anabolic steroid to build muscle mass.
